Office Hysteroscopy

Illustration of Office Hysteroscopy

Office hysteroscopy is performed in an outpatient setting and does not require anesthesia because the optical instrument has a very small diameter (2.5–4.5 mm).

During hysteroscopy, the hysteroscope is inserted through the cervical canal into the uterine cavity. It is connected to a video system and monitor, and the uterine cavity is expanded with physiological saline solution, allowing high-resolution visualization.

This method makes it possible to detect various uterine cavity pathologies, determine infertility causes located in the uterus, take an endometrial biopsy, clarify a diagnosis in case of suspicious ultrasound findings, and even correct small defects within the uterine cavity (for example, resect a polyp, adhesions, or a uterine septum).

The procedure lasts 5–15 minutes and does not require further medication or any restrictions on routine activities or work.
